Passage: Mark 12:38-44

God hates false faith, but He loves desperate dependence

Mark contrasts two teaching scenes- in one, Jesus warns the crowd against false faith, and in the second, commends to His disciples an example of true faith displayed through a widow’s desperate dependence on God.
  1. God hates false faith because it pursues the praise of men
  2. God hates false faith because it prizes position
  3. God hates false faith because it exploits others
  4. God loves desperate dependence
When we come with empty hands and desperate hearts to the Father who has withheld nothing, not even His precious Son, we can let go of our pursuit of the praise of men and our desire for places of position.
