Passage: Mark 12:28-34

How does one inherit the kingdom?

In Mark 12:28-34, we have a unique encounter with a Jewish scribe. The scribe comes to Jesus to question him on which of God’s commandments is of most importance. While the scribe agrees with Jesus’ answer, he still misses the point. Jesus tells him that he is not far from the kingdom but he is not in the kingdom because he does not have Christ. But for us who have Christ, we can have a confident hope that we are citizens of the kingdom as we continually look to and follow our king.

1. Knowledge is not enough
2. Obedience is not enough
3. Christ is enough

“Do not be found outside the kingdom but come to the Son and be welcomed as a child of God.”
