Passage: Mark 1:1-13

What makes Jesus so special?

  1. Jesus is the anticipated Son of God
  2. Jesus is the true Son of God

Mark’s gospel begins with no long introduction or explanatory on-ramp. He jumps right into declaring that Jesus is the anointed Messiah, the Son of God, and that his arrival is good news for people. What makes this news so good, though? More to the point, what makes Jesus so special? These first 13 verses of Mark’s gospel show us exactly what made Jesus so special. He is historically anticipated – the subject of the prophets and the center of Israel’s consolation. More than that, he is the beloved Son of God, the one who has succeeded where all other representatives of God have only failed. See him as gloriously unique as you meet your Savior!
