Passage: Daniel 10-12

How do we understand history?

  1. The King of History
  2. The Details of History
  3. Your Moment in History

Dynasties rise and fall. Churches open and close. People live and die. And God rules over all of it, carrying his mission along until the end, then we celebrate forever.

Imagine a long train steaming through town. You jump on and hitch a ride for a while, just to a town or two away, then you jump off. That’s kind of like our lives. We have a brief ride on the train, then we’re done, but you know what? Someone was driving it before we got on and someone is driving it after we die. Find rest there, Christian. And friend who is here who has not submitted themselves to Jesus and his reign, I want to tell you that you don’t have to make sense of history. God already has. It pivots on Jesus, who came and paid our penalty for lawbreaking, so that we don’t need to invent our own purpose in vain. We get on board with what Jesus is doing to save people from all over the world and provide an eternal home for them. One day, we’ll take our place. We’ll see Daniel there. Today, let’s go our own way.
