Passage: 1 Corinthians 4:8-21

What room is there for arrogance in the Christian’s life? Paul goes to great lengths in this passage to emphasize to the church in Corinth that their arrogant attitudes and behavior have become a detriment to their lives and their faith. Not only does arrogance divide the church, but it also kills many opportunities for gospel ministry. Paul warns of the judgment that arrogance brings, but also offers the Corinthians hope in telling them that arrogance need not have the final say in their lives.

Christian, are you arrogant? Are you known not as a faithful and humble servant, but as an arrogant and stubborn person? Let this text speak to you. See that your arrogance is in opposition to God’s will for his people. Because Christ has come and claimed victory over all sin (including arrogance) you can, by the power of the Holy Spirit, live a life free of arrogance as you represent your Savior to the world.

Proposition: There is no room for arrogance in the Christian Life

  1. Arrogance divides the church.
  2. Arrogance kills gospel ministry.
  3. Arrogance brings future judgment.
  4. Arrogance does not have to be absolute.
