Passage: Matthew 7:7-12

7 “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. 8 For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened. 9 Or which one of you, if his son asks him for bread, will give him a stone? 10 Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a serpent? 11 If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him!

The Golden Rule
12 “So whatever you wish that others would do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets.

Intro:
We tend to not believe in the power of prayer to a sovereign God. We are overwhelmed with the tasks God places before us. We wonder if God really is working in all situations. We depend upon our own efforts to effect change or achieve holiness.

Through Matthew 7:7-12, God intends to establish His sovereignty and fatherly love at once. A beautiful combination causing us both to trust Him and pursue Him.

Outro:
Today, rest in the goodness of the Father and His good gifts. He listens to you! More than that, he answers your prayers out of the abundance of His goodness, not based on our stained perspective of what we need.

Rejoice that He gives His word.

He’s given us this sermon to study and follow so that we can live how we ought to.

He’s given His word in the summary statement of “do unto others”.

Most critically for our souls, He’s given the living word, Jesus Christ, to fulfill all these things in a way that perfectly pleases God and wins people for an eternity with Him.

So as we live, as we pray, as we depend on God and trust in Him and His goodness, not knowing how things will go for us, we rest in Jesus for in Him all the promises of God find their “yes” and their “amen.”
